A Personal Journey
It began with a teacher, a mum and a belief that children could achieve more
Helen Wilson qualified as a teacher nearly 3 decades ago, and it was her experience as both an educator and a mum that planted the seed for what would eventually become A Star Tuition Group.
As her own children progressed through school, Helen recognised that the classroom alone couldn’t always provide everything an individual child needed to truly thrive. She wanted to give her children more — not simply to help them achieve academically, but to make sure they had the knowledge, confidence and strong foundations to flourish in the classroom.
It was a belief that would shape Helen’s approach to education: the right teaching, encouragement and level of challenge can transform not only what a child achieves, but how they feel about learning.
In 2008, Helen founded A Star Tuition Group.
What began from that personal understanding has grown over the past 18 years into a multi-award-winning tuition provider, supporting hundreds of children through primary education, entrance examinations, GCSEs and beyond.
Although A Star has grown, Helen’s original philosophy remains at its heart: help children become happy, enthusiastic and confident learners, and give them the skills and belief to achieve their potential.
Our Journey
2008 - A Star Tuition Group Begins
A Star Tuition Group launches with face-to-face tuition in Ramsbottom, Bury.
2020 - A Star Goes Online
Live online classes launch during the Covid pandemic, enabling us to support students and families across the UK.
2021/22 - Tuition Group of the Year
Named Tuition Group of the Year – Manchester & North West at the Prestige Awards.
2024 - Northern Enterprise Award
Named Best KS3 & KS4 Tuition Service in Greater Manchester at the SME News Northern Enterprise Awards.
2026 - Our Latest Award
Named Best Personalised Academic Tuition Provider (Greater Manchester) at the SME News Business Elite Awards 2026.
