FAQs - Frequently Asked Tuition Question | A Star Tuition Group

Click on the arrows below to reveal answers.

When are the sessions?

Pupils attend for one hour between 4pm-7:30pm Monday – Friday. Your child will be allocated to a suitable group and will attend at the same time every week.

How much is each session?

Each session is £20.

How are tuition fees paid?

Tuition fees are paid in half term blocks two weeks before term commences. You can pay fees by BACS, PayPal, PayM, cheque or in cash.

Are all your teachers fully qualified?

Yes. All our teachers are fully qualified, experienced teachers who will teach your child for the full hour every week - we do not employ students. You can be sure your child’s education is in safe hands. Our degree certificates are available for your inspection.

Do all your teachers hold a current Disclosure & Disbarring Service (DBS) certificate?

Yes. All our teachers hold an up to date DBS certificate – these are available for your inspection.

What is the ratio of pupils to teachers?

We work on a ratio of six to one. Some of our groups are smaller than this but never bigger so you can be sure your child will receive as much attention as they need.

How much notice do I have to give to stop attending?

What happens during the Initial Assessment?

We will meet with you and your child to discuss their requirements and discuss their educational goals. We will give your child some tasks that are appropriate for their age and current academic ability in order to identify your child’s learning needs. Afterwards, we will discuss the results with you and agree a tailored learning programme that will begin to address those needs.

My child has a special education need (SEN) – can they attend A Star?

Yes. We are able to tailor our curriculum to enable every child to reach their potential. After your child’s Assessment, we will discuss their unique needs with you in detail and create a course tailored to them.

My child is able/gifted – will they benefit from attending A Star?

Of course! Many gifted children benefit from attending A Star. We design our courses around your child’s academic ability rather than their age, allowing able/gifted children to work at their own pace. At your initial Assessment you will be able to discuss in more detail your child’s unique goals in-depth.

Will my child receive homework?

Yes. Homework is an important part of your child’s learning programme. It gives them the opportunity to consolidate and practise what they have learnt during their lesson. Homework tasks are designed to be completed independently so your child will not be given homework on topics they have not covered or tasks that are too difficult.

What feedback will I receive about my child’s progress?

We will provide comprehensive feedback about how your child is progressing every half term. Their targets will be reviewed and new targets agreed with you. However, we provide a very personal service to parents who are encouraged to contact us during term time if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress or education in general.

How long will my child need tuition?

All children progress at a different rate. It can be difficult to determine the exact amount of time your child will need tuition. There are no quick fixes so we believe the best approach to ensuring your child’s academic success is consistent, quality tuition.
